Thank you for your interest in placing your book at River Reader Books.

On Consignment, the book remains the property of the consignor until sold. River Reader Books is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged merchandise.  If you would like your book considered for stock, please fill out the Google Form below.

  • Has the title on the spine

  • Is priced competitively with similar titles and similarly formatted books

  • Is of a genre we carry and will be of interest to our customers

Be sure that you identify your connection to our store and tell us why our customers will want to purchase your book.

You will be required to provide a copy of your book upon a submission of our River Reader Consignment Application.  This can be dropped off in person or mailed to River Reader Books.

If your book is approved for display, it will be in the appropriate genre section for a period of 60 days. The books will be displayed face out and in alphabetical order by author’s name.

We can accept no more than 5 copies of the title you submitted (due to limited storage) if selected for display.

We prefer that consignment requests be made in writing, via email. To submit a book for consideration, please fill out our consignment application form (google document listed above) and email a one-paragraph letter including your contact information, book title, ISBN, and price information, along with promotional materials, publicity plans, target audience, and any connections to River Reader Books, Lafayette County, Missouri and/or Western Missouri. These materials should be sent to rivereaderlex@gmail.com. If we feel your book may have a market with our customers, we will contact you.

NOTE: Walk-ins are also acceptable, but we may not be able to make an immediate decision. We will email you our decision within a week.

Our standard consignment terms are:

We take a 40% discount (i.e., 60% of sales go to the author) and we keep consigned books in stock for a minimum of 90 days (depending on sales).  Payment is made four times a year, in April, July, October and January.  It is the author’s responsibility to delivery new inventory and pick up unsold inventory.  Please review our consignment form for our specific consignment terms.

The decision made by our buyers is final.  As with all inventories we carry in the store, we retain the right for any final decision not to carry a book if we believe it doesn’t fit the store philosophy or our market.  If your inventory has no activity for 3 months, we reserve the right to remove your title(s) from the shelf.  Books that have not been picked up within 30 days of being notified that they have been removed from the shelf, will no longer be our responsibility and may be donated to a charitable organization of our choice.  Unfortunately, River Reader Books cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen books.
